We've been on a treasure hunt...for your memories

Interviews Collected so far: 95 (that's 132%)

We have now stopped collecting interviews for the archive

The archive launch will take place in April 2008

The Formartine Oral History Project is an initiative of the Formartine Partnership and was started in 2004 with a £35K grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. By March 2008 an archive of over 70 interviews and subsidiary materials will be created for posterity.

It’s your Project, so we want your stories.

  • Pre-War & Post-War Farm Memories
  • World War II
  • The Coming of the Oil Industry
  • The Doric – Oor Ain Mither Tung!
  • Hobbies – old & new
  • Folklore & Legends
  • Schooldays
  • Working Days

These are just some of the subjects we hope to gather reminiscences on.

By March 2008 the interviews will be available in the following local libraries and/or secondary schools:

  • Ellon
  • Turriff
  • Oldmeldrum

so you, and anyone else, can listen to those stories which may be lost to future

generations if they are not recorded now.

Help us build up your treasure trove of memories by getting involved.

We have groups participating from the following areas:

  1. Barthol Chapel
  2. Belhelvie
  3. Collieston
  4. Ellon (Reminiscence Group)
  5. Formartine United JFC (Pitmedden)
  6. Fyvie and Woodhead & Windyhills
  7. Meldrum & Bourtie
  8. Methlick
  9. Newburgh
  10. Tarves
  11. Turriff

Training

The two training sessions have now taken place at Fyvie and Oldmeldrum. Click on the names for a report on both events. (You can also find links on the Woodhead & Meldrum Pages)

If you think you need a little extra help using the recording equipment, do let me know!

The editing, transcribing and techie end-product will be looked after by myself, so all you need is a good memory and a willingness to try something new!

News & Events

You can find these on the news & events page on this site, as well as my roving diary
