We've been on a treasure hunt...for your memories
Interviews Collected so far: 96 (that's 133%)
We have now stopped collecting interviews for the archive
The archive launch will take place on 19 APRIL 2008 - at Fyvie Castle
The Formartine Oral History Project is an initiative of the Formartine Partnership
and was started in 2004 with a £35K grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It’s your Project and we're looking after your stories.
We even have our own blessing now!
The Formartine Grace
O Lord, we sikk a blessin noo,
On ilka ashet stappit foo,
On dreepin roasts for ilka mou'
Or troots fae oot the Ythan
An faan it's hame we're bound the nicht,
Tae Fyvie, Ellon, Maud or Gight,
Lord, grant us a meen that's shinin bricht
Lest we faa intae the Ythan
From 21st April 2008 the interviews will be available in the following local libraries and secondary schools:
also for reference
- North East Folklore Archive, Mintlaw
- Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen
both of these institutions require an appointment to access the archive - contact details are on the links sidebar
and later
so you, and anyone else, can listen to those stories which may be lost to future
generations if they are not recorded now.
There will also be two reference collections at the North East Folklore Archive and the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen. It is planned to also have a collection at Balmedie Library in the near future, so the Belhelvie Parish can enjoy the fruits of our labours too!
These are just some of the subjects on which we gathered reminiscences.

The two training sessions have now taken place at Fyvie and Oldmeldrum. Click on the names for a report on both events. (You can also find links on the Woodhead & Meldrum Pages)
If you think you need a little extra help using the recording equipment, do let me know!
The editing, transcribing and techie end-product will be looked after by myself, so all you need is a good memory and a willingness to try something new!
